We are a Not For Profit organization established in 1944. We have around 250 members from every walk of life and of all ages whose shared passion is flying. The club is a social hub for anyone interested in flying.
-
Anyone can take flying lessons. You must be 17 years old to obtain your Private Pilot’s Licence so we recommend that the earliest age to start flight training is 16 years old.
-
The material is not difficult, but there is a lot to learn! Our Instructors make learning fun as you progress at your own pace, on your own schedule.
-
No, the use of club planes is included in the training cost.
-
Once you have your Private Pilot’s Licence you have many options. You can fly recreationally for fun, add additional ratings or carry on with training towards a career as a pilot. We have many graduates who fly for airlines around the world.
Members can rent the club planes and take friends and family for a tour down the Detroit River, fly to Ottawa, Toronto or even down to the Bahamas and Florida. The sky’s the limit!
-
Club rules state that any member who holds a Private Pilot’s Licence renting a club plane who has less than 100 hours total flying time must fly at least every 30 days or a check ride with an Instructor is required. Once you have more than 100 hours of total flying time you will need to fly at least once every 60 days. Licensed pilots renting our planes must complete a flight review every two years.
-
Yes! We want you to feel comfortable when taking lessons.

Our Not for Profit status makes us highly competitive. The cost breakdown based on flying a Piper Tomahawk PA38 is on the last page. The estimated cost is based on the minimum hours and requirements for a Private Pilot’s Licence laid out by Transport Canada. This price does not include tax. Please browse this page for the approximate cost for each type of license.
Our pay as you go policy lets you spread the cost out over the time it takes you to learn.
